Press Release: Veteran Action Applauds Secretary Hegseth's Directive Authorizing Personal Firearms on Military Installations
Veteran Action commends Secretary of War Pete Hegseth for signing a memorandum directing military installation commanders to allow servicemembers to carry privately owned firearms while off duty on Department of War property.
"Secretary Hegseth continues to end the War on Warriors — including the fight to restore their God-given constitutional rights," says Mark Lucas, Founder and President of Veteran Action. "Secretary Hegseth is addressing a concern servicemembers have raised for years. This directive makes our military installations and the families who call them home safer."
The memorandum establishes a presumption of approval for personal-carry applications and requires any denial be justified in writing. It aligns Department of War policy with Section 526 of the Fiscal Year 2016 National Defense Authorization Act.
